Navajo Land Department has Five Agency Offices on the Navajo Nation who assist clients in obtaining a one-acre residential lease for 75 years that provides an opportunity for families to build or mortgage a home. A Leasee has
an option to renew, assign or terminate the lease. Before obtaining a HSL, the Leasee must comply with all Federal and Navajo Environmental Laws to obtain clearances to build a home on the Navajo Nation.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) works closely with County Record offices, Bureau of Indian Affairs and US Bureau of Land Management to verify and research Navajo Nation land status, coordinates, and boundaries. The GIS section
has digital information of all land status and chapter boundaries for the Navajo Nation. Utilizing current technologies to integrate data into automated geographic information for access and distribution of non-sensitive data for the public.
Title / Records Section conducts research into all aspects of land title, receives and maintain land records, assists and participate in land exchanges, real estate purchases and/or gift of lands.
Administer the Navajo Nation Land Acquisition Program on behalf of the Navajo Nation, review all land appraisals and make recommendation for purchase to the Navajo Nation Council. Administer property
tax payments and valuations on all Navajo Nation fee lands.
The Navajo Land Department has established a Title Plant (NLTDS) to record titles, deeds, leases, land conveyances, retrieve trust asset accounting, and ability to store/retrieve records for the entire Navajo Land records. Currently, Navajo land records are being populated into the NLTDS. Administered by the Navajo Land Department.
NAVAJO NATION SYSTEM LOGINIn 1982, Navajo Nation established a Memorandum of Agreement with BLM and BIA to complete cadastral surveys on the Navajo Nation. The monuments are used to control surveys to locate geographic positions; maintenance and perpetuation of the existing Pubic land Survey System (PLSS); and necessary required retracement, resurveys, and surveys of areas requested by the Navajo Land Department and BIA.
